How the hell can a tiny corner of Bedfordshire look like a North Californian forest? Yep, another day of hot sun and bikes but this time a little closer to home at Chicksands Bike Park.
The Bank Holiday weekend saw the park rammed with full-on body armoured downhill fans taking on the impressive dual slalom course. For sure, a few could ride with skill and speed but with the massive amount of head-to-foot protection on display, coupled with bikes costing over £4k, I couldn't help but think that the adrenaline/risk ratio was boringly low - especially with the fleet of new luxury SUVs filling up the carpark.
This changed hugely when a young crew from the depths of South East London showed up. Living over 80 miles away, they jumped on 2 early morning train journeys and rode the last leg from nearby Arlesey station; these guys were the complete opposite to the far wealthier 'all the gear and no idea' slalom lot.
The 5 of them spent hours refining some seriously sick jumps and insane tricks off the multiple tabletops. Donning no more than a protective lid and running a well set-up bike, this lot showed up most of the park.
Kenny and Chris, in particular, displayed absolutely no fear whatsoever.
