Located at an elevation of 1700m ontop of Tianzhu Peak is Jindian, an exquisite hall made entirely from gilded bronze in the 14th century. There are 76 peaks in Wudang and all look up too this holy peak. The views are out this world and when I visited, they were enhanced by a recent snowfall that really shone in the midday sun.
However there's a sad edge to all this wonder; the constant presence of litter strewn across the landscape. Even in remote woodland footpaths, there's evidence of litter dropped regularly. For sure, it's commonplace in Asia and many developing countries but I did naively think that a fully operational and ancient holy site that is UNESCO registered would be immune. No, walk 1 minute below the bronze hall and bam! a pile of litter with no bin in sight.
